Our Values

The values you actually want in a congregation

We celebrate life

To paraphrase Carl Sagan, “In the vastness of space and the immensity of time, we all have the joy of sharing a planet and an epoch together.”

We’re Humanist

We affirm, without supernaturalism, our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity. For more information see the latest Humanist Manifesto.

We’re a Congregation

Having and building ‘positive social capital’ is key not only to individuals but also to society, so we’re working to foster connections amongst and across different people to encourage more civic action and create happier, healthier communities.

We accept the consensus view of science

The earth is old and round, vaccines work, climate change is real. Science is our guide.

We foster and value free-thinking

We hold that beliefs should be reached by logic, reason, and empirical observation rather than authority, tradition, revelation, or dogma. As such, we encourage respectful dialectics about any shared or individual belief.

We value compassion

We are guided by compassion and inclusion in one-on-one interactions and as an organization. We aim to be as respectful and accepting as possible without compromising on our values, beliefs, and aims.

We empower positive human connection

Having and building ‘positive social capital’ is key not only to individuals but also to society, so we’re working to foster connections amongst and across different people to encourage more civic action and create happier, healthier communities.

We’re free to attend

We’re powered by the generous donations of time and money from our members

Discover a Compassion-based Community

With compassion, science, and reason as our guide we can simply love and accept each other for who we are. The most important thing to us is a person’s character. We welcome all humane people.

Other churches and congregations have to contend with the baggage of their problematic texts and theodicies. Without such texts weighing us down, we’re free to accept people for who they are and meet them where they are.

Navigating life’s difficulties is easier with friends, so join us at an upcoming event and get plugged-in to your new community!
